Day 873

Outside training, in twilight as the temp was dropping in the low 30s. Interval training with my son. 1 minute jog, then 1 minute hard, 1 minute walk for him (jog for me), then run. 8 intervals, and a good run as the sun went down.

All day out of the house, and a quick run in before movie night with my little girl. Had to push, went faster, almost 6.6mph from the get go.

Day 868

A good run today. I was going to wait for my son to run later, but I really wanted to get a good run done. I'll run twice if he wants to go outside.

The left knee is slightly sore. I've been wearing the cho-pat strap on the right one, so maybe it's time to switch.

Hungry, and tired. Getting up this morning was a struggle, as was breaking away from work.
Still, pressed on a nice quick run and feel good.


As I have every day for 866 days, I am pulling on my running shoes to invest in my future.

Good, a little tired. Neck is sore, so I ran a steady 6.2 the whole way.

Day 865

A long day at karate with my son and a late lunch. I finally hit the treadmill, for a longer, slower run, but couldn't keep myself below 6.3mph. That feedback, and seeing my times slowly rise over the 10min/mi pace keeps me going.

I did run out of gas on the weight workout afterwards.

A long run today, just cruising along. Ended up better than 10:00/mi, despite walking for 2.5 minutes for warmup/cooldown. Felt good

Day 863

A broken up run today. I wanted to get above the 2mi/day average, and wasn't thinking. I knew I was close today, but I slowed at 18:30 to walk  and then realized I'd be short. So I sped up and jogged a couple more minutes. Felt good.

Day 862

I'm glad I got out early, with a storm rolling in this afternoon. We're supposed to get snow, so I decided to go outside and run before I'm locked into the house for a few days. I had to struggle a little to get going, but I kept plugging along slowly, heading down the road with tired legs. I finished nicely, and felt great.

Very cold outside today, so treadmill again. I felt good, but pressed for time, so I didn't go as far as I might have otherwise. I'll do more a long run Thur.

Running Recap 2010

I decided that I ought to look back at 2010, my second full year of running. I felt good running, but I was definitely injured for large sections of the year. I had to modify a lot of workouts with sore ankles and knees, and even a back. I ended up with lots of sub-50mi months.

My total mileage by month:

That gives me 585.46 for the year. Not two miles a day, but a 1.6 for the year, which I think is pretty good.

Cold and snowy outside, but I felt motivated to move. I hit the treadmill and then weights, though it was a struggle to get going for about 10 minutes. Then I felt good.

A beautiful day outside, about 55F, no wind, sunny, t-shirt weather. So I convinced Delaney to get outside with me and go for a run. It was slower and short for me, but I pushed him, minimizing the walking he did and it felt good for me, hard for him.

Running with the iPhone

With my Nano on the fritz, I decided to try and do some running with the iPhone. It won’t read the Nike + sensor (I’m on 3.1.2, jailbroken), but I can use the MapMyRun app with GPS for tracking distances outside.
I have a belt case for my iTouch, but the iPhone doesn’t want to fit in there, or at least I didn’t have the patience to mess with it. So I just held it in my hand, and jogged down the road. That worked out OK, but I was worried about dropping it and that distracted me.
Recently I was running with a sweatshirt with a front pocket, and dropped the phone in there. That worked out pretty well, the headphone cord wasn’t a problem, and it felt secure. It was a slow jog, but that was a good solution for the short term, and the winter.
I’ll have to come up with something else for the summer.

Still cold, but not that bad. However I didn't want to mess with snow, so I hit the treadmill. Felt good, a nice, long, 2.65mph run.

Still cold, still below freezing, so a nice afternoon run on the treadmill. Pushed a bit, going 6.6 for most of it with a short 6.4 break and a 7.0mph finish. A good run for me.
