Day 932

Dark outside, tired, struggling to walk to the fitness center, I decided to forego wandering around the golf course in the dark. A good run, once I got going, though 6.2 felt fast here again.

Warm Weather is coming

I can slowly feel the days getting warmer on average in Colorado. That's nice because I like running when it's hot out, going down the road, often without a shirt.

However spring here is tough, with lots of wind. I find myself avoiding the wind, way more than the cold. The cold I can handle, but the wind is brutal on my eyes.

I might try some runs in the local town, where it's a little more sheltered in places. Running among the trees would be nice and I somewhat miss running in Seashore State Park. That was a regular spot for me, often taking a dog, or running with my wife on the weekends. We could cruise through there and just enjoy the day, not too hot, not too cold. It was a great sheltered spot, and I used to run and ride bikes in there, living just outside the entrance on 64st for a year.

Those were fond memories, and I still remember taking our last puppy there, only on a walk, but she was a few months old and wandered into the water, only to be surprised when the bottom dropped and she struggled to swim. Neither of our Great Danes were very interested in the water, but it was a great place to walk in peace, especially Sunday mornings.

I haven't been back to Virginia Beach since I started this streak, but if I go, I'll have to make time to run through the park again and remember what it was like when I used to live there.

I had a good treadmill run, starting at 6.5, moving to 6.6mph for most of it after a 1 minute walk. I added a 1.5 minute cool down and barely made it, struggling with a side cramp during the last couple minutes. I haven't felt that in a long time, especially when I wasn't out of breath.

I finished the week (I end on Sat) with 16.7mi this week. On top of baseball last Sunday, two days of karate, and snowboarding one day. A lot of activity for me.

That’s a little higher than I’d like to be. I’d like to be 14-15 miles top each week. I felt good this week, but I’m slightly worried about pushing too hard, especially as I try to heal this ankle up.

Day 927

I was looking forward to a long jog outside for this milestone, but it's almost a gale outside. Warm, and the temp would be fine, but after a sore eye snowboarding that's still scratched I didn't want to chance it.

So a treadmill day, going up to 6.4mph for a start (after the walk warmup) and then hitting 6.6 for a nice long run. Felt great while running and easily hit my 2.5 mi goal. I could have gone further, but I pushed enough with a sore knee.

I hate the wind

More than cold, and maybe a touch more than wet feet, I hate the wind. The last two days were warm, and would have been beautiful except for the wind. It really tires my eyes out and so I avoided the wind by running inside.

Yesterday was chilly, and my eyes were already tired after 3 1/2 hours of baseball. Today I could have done OK, but it's been a  long day and I was trying to get this done so I could get ready for an evening meeting.

Day 918

Felt amazing today. The right knee has been sore, but I went out for a short run today, thinking I might stop early and turn around. The sun was shining, and it was 70F.

However almost halfway through the run, just as I was thinking to turn around, I realized that I felt great. Lungs were good, legs strong, so I kept going to the mile marker and then turned around, running faster than I expected. This was a day that I felt like I could just cruise.

Closing on 1000

I'm less than 100 days away. I wasn't sure I'd ever get here, since I tend to get injured doing all the stuff I do, but here I am, 900+ days in and at this rate I'll have 1000 days before I get my black belt or finish the baseball season.

It's amazing to me to even think about getting close. After all, I wanted a year, 366 days to start with, but it was so easy, I kept going. Now I can't imagine not getting to 1000, but I'll have to think about what comes after that.
